SPEAKERS on MALES & EATING DISORDERS
 
Christopher Clark
Founder and executive director of N.A.M.E.D. is in recovery from his 32 year experience with anorexia. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy and a Master of Arts Degree in Communication. He speaks on males and eating disorders, his experience receiving calls on the N.A.M.E.D. Helpline, an interesting reflection on why some males may be predisposed to anorexia, and his personal experience with an eating disorder and recovery.
 
Troy Roness
Inaugural U.S. Male MentorCONNECT Advisor.   MentorCONNECT is a program providing support, encouragement, and guidance to those with eating disorders.  Troy is in recovery from anorexia and an exercise obsession. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Health/Physical Education and is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Education & Mind/Brain Research. Troy gained national attention after being on the Dr. Phil Show as a male suffering from an eating disorder. Troy also serves as an Inaugural U.S. Male N.E.D.A. Representative.  He shares his story with an eating disorder and recovery, gives hope to others, offers reflections on being a male with an eating disorder, and discusses his experience helping others through MentorCONNECT.
 
Victor Avon
Author of "My Monster Within: My Story" has a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice.  Vic helps facilitate an eating disorder recovery support group, does public speaking on eating disorder awareness, is involved with N.E.D.A.'s Navigator Program - a program offering support, encouragement, hope, and an access to resources for those with eating disorders and their families, and is a mentor for the MentorCONNECT Program. 
 
Adam Lamparello
Author of "Ten-Mile Morning: My Journey Through Anorexia Nervosa" released in June 2012 shares his five year ordeal with and recovery from anorexia.  Adam is an attorney and law professor.  His passion is to help those struggling with eating disorders and inspire them to recovery.  He shares his struggles and pain and ultimate triumph over his eating disorder as well as the insights he learned with his audiences.
 
Leigh Cohn
Co-founder of Gurze Books,
a company publishing and distributing books on eating disorders has a Master of Arts Degree in Teaching and is a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist. He co-authored, “Making Weight: Men’s Conflicts with Food, Weight, Shape and Appearance.” He is an experienced speaker who gives a general overview of males and eating disorders, is familiar with the research in the field, and brings over 30 years of experience with eating disorder awareness work.
 
Keith Ahrens
Author of the bestselling book “Outrunning My Shadow”, a Motivational Speaker and an Expert on Lifestyle Change. He is a recipient of the American Heart Association Lifestyle Change Award.  Keith is a Certified Fitness Trainer, a Specialist in Fitness Nutrition, and a Basic Life Support Instructor. Keith’s inspiring story leads his audiences from sharing his personal journey with compulsive overeating and binge eating to explaining about obesity and its effects on the body.  He talks about his personal quest for change and his new outlook on life while providing tips and solutions that motivate and inspire others to take action for improving their health.

Jordan Friedman
N.A.M.E.D. Board Advisor from New York City is a nationally recognized speaker and consultant on stress management and health promotion.  While Jordan does not speak on eating disorders, he offers valuable stress reduction skills to help those with eating disorders reduce their anxiety, enabling them to work toward recovery.   Jordan’s work is inspired by his past experience of using stress reduction techniques to manage his health after being diagnosed with one of the largest brain tumors on record.  Jordan has a Masters degree in Public Health (MPH) and has written books, including “The Stress Manager’s Manual.”  
 
Lori HansonFounder & CEO of Learn2Balance is a stress management, eating disorder coach and motivational speaker.  She shares her 34 year journey to victory over bulimia with humor, passion and inspiration that makes it easy for audiences to relate to.   The author of the award-winning "It Started with Pop-Tarts" she shares her personal story insights for holistic healing and a healthy life-style that led to her recovery.  Lori is passionate about the importance of balancing body and brain chemistry as a critical element to recovery and offers her "coaching" style as an effective approach to helping clients heal and find freedom.
